Both file formats include controlled vocabulary. This is used to avoid ambiguity between concepts and to have common term representing the same idea. In addition, some terms are supposed to be from a specific ontology -mainly the MGED ontology[mgea], for describing samples used in microarray experiments-. This ontology has been created by the MGED society[mgec], in complement of MIAME[miab] with the view of being integrated in MAGE[maga].
